Casa Estudio Luis Barragan, CDMX, MEX. (2018) Experimental Film. When I first entered the house I was surprised by the different vibrations and ambiances in each space. I felt drawn into corners by an absent guide. After a while I got it, Luis Barragan knew exactly where people would stand in his creation, ever conscious of the lighting and what effect it would have on a visitor. I knew I had to explore more than colors and textures, but the energy of the house. A documentary would never explain the whole thing. The power of the building required play and experiment.
Through improvisation, Diego Mur and I started to explore the house in a different level. Guiding dancers to flow through the rivers of the building's energy, we began to create something. The house started to change as time passed, and magic presented itself as light - coming in through a window we were not aware of at all. The dynamics of the house surrounded us. Everything we created, the house was giving to us; following someone or something's own intuition.
The balance between adhesion to Barragan's unquestionable expression and the spontaneous movement of the dancers where the recipe to build a living path to someone real, echoes from Barragan's life.
Echoes is a multidisciplinary piece that blends architecture, cinema, performance and music.
